When did you first start pursuing a music industry career; what inspired you to do so?

I was about 14-15 years old, when I discovered the magical world of DAWs, but I had an interest in music from an early age, especially film music because I grew up watching Star Wars. I had tried various instruments (unfortunately with bad teachers), but turned out that composition was what I was looking for in the end in terms of expression.

How important were the connections you made during your studies?

Very important, meeting industry guest Nicholas Dodd, set me on my career path.

Could you tell me about some of your most memorable projects to date?

When I assisted Hollywood orchestrator Nicholas Dodd in a project in Abu Dhabi and did all the music prep for it, I learned so much and was an amazing experience being in Abu Dhabi with the Royal Philharmonic and in sessions at Air Studios! Next is assisting Ann Barnard with the music prep for a musical that the composer was George Fenton, it was so nice to spend time with him. Lastly, I was one of the 5 selected composers to participate in a fully funded orchestral studio program in FAMES Institute at Skopje, mentored by Alastair King, I got to record and conduct my own music in a top studio environment and make meaningful friendships and gained a huge chunk of knowledge.

How has studying your course impacted what you do for your career currently?

It was definitely helpful, as mentioned before regarding connections and creating quality work quickly, I think when applying for my BBC Music Librarian job, it was something that was very appreciated and really helped me get the job!

What is your best memory from Leeds Conservatoire?

The friends I made and the awesome masterclasses and Lord of the Rings/Star Wars analysis with Andy!

What advice would you give to a prospective student thinking of applying to your course?

Try and create your own voice, make friends and collaborate with performers, record your music in the studios, participate in the masterclasses, befriend your teachers so they become your mentors and keep in touch with them even after your course, it all goes very quick, make the most of it and have fun!
