Courses Studied: Ben Parry & Josh Taylor - BA (Hons) Music (Production), Varun Govil - BA (Hons) Music (Popular)
Grunge band Fuzz Lightyear was formed in 2019. Since then, the band has built a strong audience in Leeds, with their crowds and music growing noisier at each sold-out show across the city.
Working alongside their producer and friend Adam Bentham, Fuzz Lightyear have infused their "DIY grungy basement sound" on each track of their debut EP, 'FUZZ II'. With praise from Shell Zenner, BBC Introducing, Brudenell Social Club and more, Fuzz Lightyear's brand of grunge is quickly becoming notable.
Mollie Coddled is self-produced Indie Pop artist based in Leeds, UK. Merging Dreamy Indie and Alt-Pop, Mollie pairs soft, soulful vocals with a soundscape of hazy, echo-laden guitars and synthesisers.
Being independent and influenced by the DIY scene, Mollie produces her songs in her bedroom, bringing an intimate feel. Since releasing her Debut EP 'The Halo Effect' last year, she has been seen on Spotify's 'New Music Friday', 'Fresh Finds' and 'Lofi Indie' among many others as well as seeing support from DORK and Notion. Summery synthesisers, reverb drenched guitars and intimate vocals shape her sound; which encompasses the feeling of being lonely and in love at the same time.
Mollie has accumulated over 300k streams and has also received huge support from BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio; being featured on their A-list, Tracks of 2020, and "Ones to Watch For 2021”.
In 2019 Seth Oraeki succeeded in going on The Voice UK on Team Will, learning from mentors such as Will. I.Am and Jennifer Hudson. Seth then began work with Producer JayRiot and released his first Debut single, 'Wanting', which had over 30,000 streams in the first two weeks.
While studying at Leeds Conservatoire, he started on his Debut EP project, 'What is Adolescence?'. Since living in Leeds, Seth Oraeki has joined the 'Launchpad' artist development program, gaining mentoring from Scott Lewis and collaborating with Evoke Studios. Seth Oraeki is currently working with the Music Label 'Come Play With Me' on their collaboration album featuring his radio hit song 'Even when it hurts', which was played four times on BBC Introducing West Yorkshire & Bedfordshire.
The Sound of Modesty
Course Studied: BA (Hons) Music (Production)
With her candid lyrics and unique take on indie-rock, 'The Sound of Modesty' is the unusual project created by singer-songwriter and producer Yvonne Han. She continuously blends genres such as modernist electronic, avant-garde, and j-rock, using her persona to carve out her place in the indie-music scene.
Influenced strongly by experimental female artists like Mitski, Björk, and electronic pop artists like T.a.T.u and EGOIST, she now studies Music Production at Leeds Conservatoire, working alongside producer 'Rayn' and her live band to release her debut album.
Yusuf Yellow is a Leeds-based rapper who shares his personal experiences through relatable and honest lyrics. His music is "a sonic elixir of Hip Hop's past, present and future" that navigates through the different stages of his life.
Yusuf Yellow has worked with Leeds-label Readymeal Sound whilst selling out a headline show at the iconic Hyde Park Book Club. He is developing a unique vision for his music that reaches far beyond 'cool songs' and instead captures who he is as an individual.
This year's Sound City line-up features incredible headliners such as Beebadoobee, Red Rum Club, Reggie Snow and The Snuts. Also performing are Leeds Conservatoire alumni Weezy Jefferson, L’Nee Golay and King No One.
