Build confidence and skills, work with industry professionals and experience a taste of conservatoire education at our 2025 Summer Academy.
Taking place from Monday 28 July to Friday 1 August, and open to students starting Year 13 in September 2025, this innovative initiative has two strands to choose from: Performance and Production.
Both strands include a series of classes, practical workshops and masterclasses with experienced lecturers and industry professionals. Plus a programme of evening social activities throughout the week, with a four-night residential option at nearby student accommodation Clarence Dock Village for those from further afield.
“The Summer Academy is an inspiring and transformative week, offering Year 12 students a valuable glimpse into life at a conservatoire while introducing them to study options they may never have considered.
“It’s a privilege to witness these young people grow in confidence, refine their skills, and take meaningful steps toward their goal of pursuing a degree. Just as vital is the social aspect; there’s nothing quite like connecting and collaborating with likeminded peers who share the same passion for music and the performing arts,” says Karen Gourlay, Head of Leeds Junior Conservatoire.
The conservatoire has a global outlook and students from several countries attended the Summer Academy in 2024. They flourished as the week went on, in study and social settings, with feedback including the following:
“I have learnt more skills in jazz performance around both soloing and being part of a rhythm section. I feel as though I also know more about the shape a career in music may take.”
“I met a lot of great people and great musicians and it’s fun playing with them.”
“I have learnt about software that I wouldn’t have otherwise used, improved my synthesis skills and critical thinking skills.”
Leeds Conservatoire is committed to ensuring the Summer Academy is accessible to all, offering bursaries to support eligible students with the cost of attendance.
