English Folk Expo (EFEx) has announced the four participants for its Artist Mentoring Programme 2022/2023, including Leeds Conservatoire Folk graduate Maddie Morris.
As a student, Maddie won the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award in 2019. Maddie is an exciting up-and-coming folk musician who uses both traditional and contemporary folk song to tackle issues of social inequality.
Over 12 months, participants on the EFEx Artist Mentoring Programme will study selected areas of the music industry, developing their awareness, widening networks and creating a strategy tailored to suit their own business needs. By the end of the course, participants will have a firm understanding of the roles and responsibilities of different parts of the sector, developed new contacts and networks within the industry, and have a clear roadmap for them to follow in the next stage of their careers.
The key topics covered are stagecraft, recorded music, live touring, audience development and business planning. Full programme details can be found here.
Maddie shared on social media that “to be one of the four selected artists has given me such a sense of pride in the stuff that I’ve been getting up to, and I’m really looking forward to the upcoming year and what it will bring.”
We wish Maddie all the best for the year ahead.
