Leeds Conservatoire is delighted to return to Sound City for the fifth year running! Chosen by the team at Sound City, five Leeds Conservatoire artists will perform across a range of venues at the festival on Saturday 2 May 2020.
Our partnership with Sound City is just one example of the many and varied performance opportunities available to Leeds Conservatoire students.
Here’s a bit more about the some of the artists selected for this year’s line-up….
L'nee Golay
L’nee Golay’s music is a rich blend of all things wonderful: a bit of soul, a bit of hip-hop, and a sprinkle of singer-songwriter vibes all mixed up to create one beautiful sound. Her recent single Options, featuring producer Psalmist Music, was on five major playlists on Apple Music India, including A-List Pop, Today’s Hits and Best of the Week. Her forthcoming single Never Loved Somebody Like You was featured on the new hits Amazon Prime TV series Made In Heaven.
HerTiltedMoons
HerTiltedMoons is an eerie music project by Venetian singer-songwriter Cecilia Nicolè. Cecilia has always been immersed in a musical environment and she began studying the violin at age 5, wrote her first songs at 14 and began gigging in Italy straight after high school. With her music being influenced by British bands and singer-songwriters, in 2018 she moved to Leeds. Her song Dead Poets has been featured on BBC Music Introducing.
Weezy Jefferson
Weezy Jefferson’s music takes a contemporary approach to Hip Hop using intricate lyricism and wordplay. Weezy has appeared across a range of different platforms, such as BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1xtra and has been play-listed as BBC Introducing’s Track of the week on BBC Radio 1.
ALLEYWAYS
ALLEYWAYS, the Leeds based Pop-Indie outfit bring their alternative stance on pop culture to the new indie generation. Their punchy tunes, brought to life by frontman Dougie Turner’s electric presence, weave a spell over the tight groove provided by bassist and producer George Barwick. Saxophonist, Stu Whyte, adds an extra dimension to the sound that is completed by the glittering funky guitar of Ben Clark. The band have supported the likes of Fickle Friends, King No One, Glass Caves and Cassia, and have been featured on BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Introducing.
Message Of A Nation
MOAN aka Message of A Nation is a UK hip-hop artist from Sheffield, exploring the message of today's young adults and second pseudonym/personality of Oxymoron. Using diary notes, MOAN turns these into music that is real, raw and passionate. MOAN's music is emotional, positive, dark and cryptic, yet digestible.
The next project will be released on the 27th of March and is aimed at raising awareness of mental health issues in young adults, especially men. The title is ‘Bipolar Love Affair’ about dealing with the many changes in life.
The 2020 Sound City line-up features an impressive list of headliners, including Friendly Fires, Pale Waves, Marika Hackman and LCoM alumni band Marsicans.
