Leeds College of Music is delighted to launch a new initiative to issue high quality hearing protection free of charge to all students.
The EarPeace ear plugs, which are supplied by audio specialists Read Audio, will be made available to everyone studying Further Education and Higher Education at the conservatoire from September 2017.
The initiative is borne out of the conservatoire’s Noise Action Group, which is comprised of academic and support staff as well as representatives from the Students’ Union. Investing in hearing protection for all comes from a genuine concern to do something positive to protect the hearing of students over the long term when exposed to noisy environments.
Principal and Managing Director at Leeds College of Music, Gerry Godley, says: “We take our students’ wellbeing very seriously, which is why we were keen to quickly address the concerns raised by significantly investing in hearing protection. We have chosen Read Audio as our partners in this initiative as they are trusted industry specialists who produce top quality hearing protection for musicians working right across the industry.”
Read Audio are a renowned audio specialist who provide high quality ear plugs and in-ear monitors for musicians. They work with high profile acts across a range of music, including Basement Jaxx, Sigala, Fickle Friends, Years and Years, Sigma, Gavin Greenaway and Peter Gregson.
The universal-fit EarPeace ear plugs, which retail at £19.99 each, are designed to reduce the volume in noisy environments, whilst filtering sound to ensure that performers, engineers and producers can still hear everything they need to.

The initiative sees an £18K investment from Leeds College of Music, who are trailblazing the provision of free universal hearing protection in higher education.
