Leeds Conservatoire has formed a partnership with Victoria Leeds, supported by LeedsBID (Leeds Business Improvement District), to bring live music back safely to the city centre this summer.

As part of the 'Welcome Back To Leeds' campaign, a programme of live performances featuring students from the conservatoire will begin on Monday, 28th June and run until Sunday 11th July. At least two emerging artists performing each lunchtime in Victoria Quarter over the two-week period.

The scheduled artists include singer-songwriters, duos, classical musicians and stripped back bands, showcasing the conservatoire’s broad array of adept performers. The programme is inspired by the conservatoire’s Sounds Like THIS festival – an award-winning event dedicated to new and cutting-edge music.

The programme will provide a fantastic opportunity for the region’s next generation of talented musicians to get back on stage, following a break from playing live during the pandemic, all whilst providing the people of Leeds with the opportunity to soak up some culture in the city.

Dr Paul Abbott, Director of Events & Enterprise at Leeds Conservatoire said: “We are thrilled to work alongside our partners in getting our students back on stage where they belong, and what better way to support the city in coming back to life this summer than with some quality music. These talented musicians are definitely the future of music, but also keen to support the city in re-opening, so it seemed fitting to present them under our inclusive Sounds Like THIS festival brand.”

Jo Coburn General Manager, Victoria Leeds said: “This event just goes to show what can happen when we work in collaboration with LeedsBID & Leeds Conservatoire. It is a real honour to be able to give these young musicians a platform to showcase their incredible talents under the beautiful stained glass canopy of the Victoria Quarter.”

Andrew Cooper, Chief Executive at LeedsBID, added: “Animating the city centre with live music is a great and entertaining way of welcoming people back to enjoy all Leeds has to offer as well as providing a stage to showcase the diverse talents of some of our local budding musicians.”

People can enjoy the performances in a special mini auditorium in Victoria Quarter, located close to the Briggate entrance, between 12-2pm daily.

Welcome back to Leeds

Brought to the city by LeedsBID, it provides insightful and essential information for people as they return to the city centre. It celebrates the strengths and appeal of Leeds and is helping support businesses as part of the recovery of the city centre amid the challenges of COVID-19.
