Leeds College of Music is delighted to announce that Marc Almond will be returning to The Venue for ‘Love in Leeds’, an event created in partnership with BBC Radio Leeds.
The evening will see the great British pop icon perform once more with the LCoM Contemporary Pop Choir, in a showcase of love-themed songs set against an orchestral backdrop.
LCoM first began to work with Marc Almond in 2014, when he became a fellow of the conservatoire. He then worked with the Contemporary Pop Choir as part of LCoM’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations, on an outstanding show which saw a collaborative performance of his songs at Leeds Town Hall, and later at the Royal Festival Hall.
He now returns to Leeds College of Music to work once again with our students who he has described as “some of the best musicians I have ever worked with.”
The support acts for the evening will showcase a variety of music from Leeds College of Music. Alumni and BBC Introducing favourites Kell will join the bill alongside current jazz students Else & Eva Eik, with original songs in keeping with the love theme.
The line-up also includes the Leeds College of Music Chamber Choir, performing alternative versions of Slipknot’s ‘Vermillion’ and John Lennon’s ‘Woman’, both specially arranged for the event by Senior Lecturer Joe Bolger.
Gerry Godley, Principle and Managing Director of Leeds College of Music says;
Working with Marc Almond was a real highlight of LCoM’s 50th anniversary celebrations last year. It was an unforgettable experience for those students fortunate to share the stage with a true icon. Marc’s stellar career started in Leeds and bringing these orchestral arrangements of his favourite love songs back to Quarry Hill seems a perfect coda to a journey that began in 2014 when Marc became a Fellow of Leeds College of Music. I can’t think of a better way to work in partnership with BBC Leeds.
