Radio legend Scott Mills has had a distinguished broadcasting career... and it's safe to say he's seen it all.
And he will be sharing some of those stories with a specially invited audience at Leeds College of Music, as part of a brand new national radio and audio expo coming to the city.
Scott Mills in conversation is one of the headline events as part of Segue, a two-day festival of the radio and audio industry from 18th-19th October hosted by The Radio Academy, in association with LeedsBID (Business Improvement District).
Segue brings together big industry names, brands and headline acts for a series of speeches, masterclasses and networking opportunities in the city. The event culminates in a prestigious industry awards ceremony, the ARIAS (Audio & Radio Industry Awards) returning to the First Direct Arena in Leeds, which Scott will be hosting.
Starting out on local Hampshire station Power FM, Scott quickly rose through the ranks, working at GWR FM Bristol and Manchester's Piccadilly Key 103 before heading to London, first presenting for Heart 106.2 and then moving to BBC Radio 1.
His early afternoon show, The Scott Mills Show, is a huge hit with listeners, filled with much loved features such as Innuendo Bingo, Playground Insults and Real or No Real, Scott and his team provide a show which is unrivalled in humour and unique content.
‘In conversation with broadcaster and radio historian, David Lloyd, Scott Mills chats life, career and radio love at the Venue, Leeds College of Music on Wednesday, 18th October from 8pm.
The evening will also include a performance from up and coming artist and former Leeds College of Music student Lucy Whittaker.
Lucy’s punchy Electro Pop sound, teamed with her energetic performances are fast generating her a reputation as ‘one to watch’. Her debut single reached #1 on the Hype Machine ‘Popular on Twitter’ chart, whilst her follow up release ‘I’m Not Ever Coming Back Again’ charted at #12 in the UK Viral Spotify chart, and was supported by BBC Radio 1 after being chosen as BBC Introducing’s Track of the Week. Having supported Clean Bandit, and performed at Eurosonic Netherlands 2017 alongside artists including Anne Marie, 2017 has been a big year for Lucy.

Segue will see the UK radio and audio industry descend on the city while also appealing to the Leeds business community, regional radio advertisers and employees as well students of the creative industries. It will provide professionals the opportunity to improve their skills and knowledge, bring the industry together with the city’s wider business community and help to inspire the next generation of talent.
Segue opens on Wednesday October 18th with another event at the Leeds College of Music - an afternoon session, The Business of Radio, hosted by former BBC Director of Radio, Helen Boaden. Boaden will be joined for a panel discussion on the opportunities and threats faced by the sector by Siobhan Kenny, CEO of commercial radio trade body, Radiocentre, Phil Riley, former CEO Chrysalis Radio/Orion Media and Chair of Judges for the ARIAS and Neelay Patel who leads on the future development and innovation of TV, radio and music at the BBC.
The Segue ‘Radio and Audio Fair’ will be held on Thursday 19th at Malmaison Leeds, and will offer a range of masterclasses and workshops, as well as a trade fair for audio, radio and broadcast companies. Tickets for the Segue ‘Radio & Audio Fair’ are free to Radio Academy members and available to purchase from www.radioacademy.org priced £10 a day for non-members. The Segue ‘Radio and Audio Fair’ will also offer local students the opportunity to learn about career opportunities in radio and audio. Later that evening, Leeds rolls out the red carpet for the ARIAS - the industry’s flagship awards, celebrating the best of audio, innovation and excellence across all radio platforms and digital audio services.
Returning to the first direct Arena, the evening will again be a star-studded event, with memorable performances, an increased number of awards and the opportunity for members of the public to be among the audience.
