Leeds Conservatoire is celebrating the second release of student and graduate produced music, via its production music label Quarry Music, plus associated commercial and professional placements.
The second compilation in the Snapshot series was recently released with a launch and listening event for an invited audience at the conservatoire. Snapshot 2, available on the platform powered by MediaTracks, contains ten tracks from new composing talent within the conservatoire community. The pieces featured cover a range of moods and are composed for a wide range of placements, from adverts to animations and dramas to documentaries. A score suitable for children’s television is also included.
Quarry Music trains three interns each academic year, providing them with hands-on experience in various facets of the music industry, including metadata management, PRS registrations, A&R, the use of DISCO file sharing software and social media management.
The internship scheme has proven highly effective, with all three of last year’s interns quickly securing sought after roles within the UK music industry.
- Ethan Glover, who worked as an intern on the Quarry Music label and co-composed Snapshot 2 track ‘Runner’s Anthem,’ has a job at PRS for Music as a Royalty Distribution Coordinator.
- Co-composer on ‘Runner’s Anthem,’ plus several other Quarry Music tracks, Kea Bell is now a Junior Producer at Universal Production Music.
- Chloe Simmons, who composed several tracks for Quarry Music album Lurking Shadows, is working as a Copyright Administration Assistant at Hipgnosis Song Management.
Ethan’s composition ‘Medical Momentum’ also marks the first commercial placement for a Quarry Music track, being played on Irish television channel RTÉ One.
He said, “I learnt so much during my time at Quarry Music, from handling metadata to pitching our music to top UK TV channels. This internship has also provided me with many great memories. My proudest moment would have to be getting my own track from Snapshot 1 placed on RTÉ One. This was very exciting news for me personally as I have never had a track on broadcast media before, but more importantly it proved that what we have been doing at Quarry Music is working.”
James Warrender, Head of Strategic Partnerships and Enterprise at Leeds Conservatoire, added, “Quarry Music is designed to not only provide our young composers with a tangible opportunity to have their work licensed globally but also to give them the skills needed to thrive in the competitive music business. We're proud of our interns’ success in securing jobs and excited to see what the current cohort will achieve.”
