Ahead of our showcase at Sound City Festival 2019, meet Matilde Mirotti and Frankie Harper AKA In The Morning Lights, one of the bands on the bill. We caught up with them to see what they're looking forward to at this year's festival!

How does it feel to be playing at Sound City?

We’re really excited to be playing our first festival! We will be performing our new live set, featuring all the new songs that we will be releasing over the next few months, plus we have a new drummer joining us on stage!

Give us a brief history of your band...

We formed ‘In The Morning Lights’ in 2018. We spent 6 months as a duo writing and producing all of own own music.

The band is named In The Morning Lights because the project is intended to represent everything a new morning does - that moment of calm, those volatile few seconds before the day plays out, however it is going to play out.

How would you describe your sound?

In The Morning Lights could be defined as ‘Alternative Pop/RnB’ - influenced by electronic, ambient and alternative indie music, as well as Hip-Hop.

What can people expect from your Sound City set?

We have a very dynamic set planned - our performance will be high energy and intimate at the same time. We use analogue synths and acoustic sounds that meet heavily manipulated samples, whilst also throwing in a couple acoustic tracks.

Do you think playing Sound City will be different to past gigs and why?

We’re particularly looking forward to playing outside of Leeds, where we are usually based. We are also excited to be playing alongside some familiar faces and enjoying our first festival experience as a band.

Who are you excited to see when you’re there?

Particularly looking forward to Confidence Man, Ginevra & Jungle Giants and of course DOMI, who Frankie has worked closely with producing her most recent work.

What are you most excited about playing at Sound City?

Reaching new audiences & marking the start of a busy and hopefully warm summer!

How does it feel to see your name on a festival line up?

Absolutely blown away - took a photo and sent it to our mums straight away!
