Solo electronic artist and connoisseur of ‘sad dance’ music N/\L/\ is the work of Leeds College of Music student Holly Readman. The 21 year old composer/producer is already making waves in the DIY electronica scene, commandeering stages at the likes of Live At Leeds festival, and receiving airplay from BBC Introducing WY and Tom Robinson’s BBC Radio 6 Mixtape.

N/\L/\  will be performing as one of five Leeds College of Music acts at Liverpool Sound City Festival 2018.

N/\L/\ will be live from the Red Brick Vintage Stage on Saturday 5 May from 17:20

N/\L/\

"The unofficial queen of music that makes you want to dance and cry at the same time."

"A force of art-pop oddity, electronic artist N/\L/\ is equal parts creepy and cathartic, making music designed to see you through until the early hours of the morning." - Jenessa Williams, Confidentials

How does it feel to be chosen for Sound City?

It feels like a big rash on my heart - the excitement is an endless itch that just won’t go away. [I think my set at Sound City will have] even more danger than usual.

How would you describe your sound, and what can we expect from your live show at Sound City?

Horrible electronica for people that like to dance and cry at the same time. An alchemy of remorseless beats, jarring basslines, sprinkled with lyrics preaching
truths of mental health and injustice - its creepy, its gritty, its fearless and relentless; and unapologetically so.

Any other bands you’re keen to see, and why?

Obviously all the LCoM bands, especially Long Legged Creatures who I’ve not had a chance to see yet and heard amazing things. I’ve supported fellow LCoM’er’s VENUS before and they blew me away, super excited to see them command their first festival.

Also on my favourites list is Shadowlark, PEAKES, Marsicans, Laminate Pet Animal, Cattle, Peaness, Queen Zee, Cassia, False Advertising, and a very big special Yes Come On for my very big special boys from my home town PLAZA.

What are you looking forward to most about your performance?

Lapping up the audience’s screams of adoration like a bloodthirsty hound.

What do you think an opportunity such as Sound City will mean for your band?

I’m definitely excited to be contributing to closing the gender imbalance on current festival lineups somewhat.
