UK Music held its annual awards celebrating the best of the Music Academic Partnership (MAP) network at Sound City in Liverpool.
Ruby Ewing, who studied Songwriting at Leeds Conservatoire, secured a Special Mention prize, with Actor Musician graduate Tasha Dowd also nominated.
The awards are given to students from UK Music’s MAP to identify and recognise some of the most dynamic and successful individuals to come through MAP institutions.
They recognise students who have excelled in research, recording, performance, general musical life of the institution, wider musical life of the city/area, or business success or their community work.

Ruby Ewing - Special Mention
Ruby Ewing is a recent graduate from Leeds Conservatoire. Whilst studying on the Songwriting course, she set up the ATHENA Collective – a community for female and non-binary songwriters, musicians and artists.
Ruby said, “I have never felt more supported, cared for, heard and understood by any other part of my education like I was by the tutors at Leeds Conservatoire. As someone who struggled with school, I finally felt like I fit in somewhere – and it was amazing to have so many passionate and inspiring tutors around me.”
Tasha Dowd - Nominee
Tasha Dowd is an actor, musician and playwright from Liverpool, and a recent graduate from Leeds Conservatoire.
“I can’t imagine my training having taken place anywhere else except Leeds Conservatoire. From application to graduation, their doors have always been open; with their free auditions, the bursaries and financial aid you could apply for, the regular check-ins, and the openness to getting it wrong. I think the support and training I received really helped me be myself in professional settings, to not overthink so much, and to really have fun with the work I make for myself and get to be a part of.”
