Leeds College of Music is delighted to return to Sound City for the third year running! We’re proud to showcase an eclectic mix of talented artists as we take over the Red Brick Vintage Stage on Saturday 5th May from 3pm – 6pm...

Representing Leeds College of Music at the festival are the following five artists:

Venus

Venus

Venus are a five-piece all-girl rock band from Leeds, advocating for women in alternative music, and a safer and more diverse music scene. Featuring second and third year Popular Music and Music Production students Grace Kelly, Gabby Cooke, Grace Stubbings, Hannah Barraclough and Jess Ayres, they aim to bring a positive energy of feminism and activism through hard-hitting rock and punk influenced music.

Long Legged Creatures

Long Legged Creatures are creeping out with their twisted live electronica, full of wonky harmony and heavy grooves, which create a sense of uneasiness. They were formed in 2015 by bassist Beth O’Lenahan (third year Popular Music), keys player Ed Allen (third year Popular Music with Jazz), and drummer Matt Hill (third year Popular Music). Recently they have added live producer, Ross Wilson (third year Music Production), to blend the recklessness with a nod to the deeper UK dance sound.

Thomas Harvey

Unravelling a personal sense of reality, Thomas Harvey is a third year Popular Music student and singer/songwriter, whose emotive blend of alt-pop and electronic sounds deliver individualism through eloquent lyrical themes. A multi-instrumentalist (Keyboard, Guitar, Voice), Harvey is greatly influenced by artists including Ry X, Banks and Nick Murphy, particularly after living abroad within the Australian music scene.

LUNABLIND

LUNABLIND are a three-piece indie band featuring third year Music Production student Sam Garbett and third year Jazz students Luke D’Aulerio and Harry Beech. Their trademark indie-dance crossover makes for a powerful performance, supported by driving rhythms and tasteful melodies. Reminiscent of early Two Door Cinema Club, All Tvvins and Foals, they offer catchy guitar riffs and a powerhouse of danceable indie tracks which never cease to please!

Solo electronic artist and connoisseur of “sad dance music”, N/\L/\ is the work of second year LCoM Popular Music student Holly Readman. N/\L/\ is already making waves in the DIY electronica scene, taking to the stage at Live at Leeds and receiving airplay from BBC Introducing WY and Tom Robinson’s BBC Radio 6 Mixtape. An alchemist of remorseless beats and jarring basslines sprinkled with lyrics preaching truths of mental health injustice – makes for something gritty, creepy, fearless, and relentless - and unapologetically so.

LCoM Alumni also feature in the exciting line-up – including innovative electronic trio Laminate Pet Animal, charismatic, blues-tinged rockers Bang Bang Romeo and British Country Music award winner, Laura Oakes.

In addition to the impressive number of LCoM artists on the line-up, LCoM students will also work on placements backstage across the festival and conference.
