In celebration of International Women’s Day, we have some fantastic events taking place at Leeds College of Music showcasing and celebrating the work of female musicians, and providing platforms for collaboration.
This afternoon marks the launch of the second Both Sides Now residency, which sees British Composer-Award winning Shiva Feshareki lead 15 local female artists through five days of collaboration. Amongst the 15 artists are current LCoM students Grace Stubbings and Charlotte Cunningham (Classical) and Megan Lama (Music Production), and LCoM alumni Lara Jones and Jemma Freese. Both Sides Now is an initiative from Brighter Sound charity to support, showcase and inspire female artists across the North of England.
The residency culminates with a performance of the works they create on the opening night of Sounds Like THIS festival on Monday 12 March in The Venue at LCoM.

Thursday evening will see LCoM & COME PLAY WITH ME present the European Premiere of Amplify Her – a powerful and celebratory film about emerging female artists in Canada’s electronic music scene. Part live-action, part graphic novel, rather than ask the expected “why aren’t there more women in this male dominated scene?”, the film explores “what is unique about feminine expression and how might we all benefit when it flourishes?”
The whole community is welcome and encouraged to attend this important film, which will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s director, Nicole Sorochan. There will also be an afterparty at Wharf Chambers, hosted by Equaliser and Girl Gang Leeds.
