Dave Walsh is a busy working drummer in the UK, working at Leeds Conservatoire as a Principal Lecturer for the Jazz pathway.
He works in many different genres such as being the drummer for singer/songwriter Tom McRae and has completed four tours of Europe in 2010/11/12 & 2015 and several international music festivals including 'The Dranouter Festival' in Belgium, 'Rock Altitude' in Switzerland, Les Ardentes festival in Liege and Kartfestivalen in Norways He also appeared on French music TV program 'Taratata' with Tom McRae and also backed French international artist Keren Ann. Dave Also played on Tom’s new album titled 'Did I Sleep and Miss The Boarder' (2015), featuring Tom McRae and The Standing Band. And also ‘The Buzzard Tree Sessions' (2015), which also featured The Standing Band. In December 2016 Tom recorded a cover of the Del Amitri hit 'Here and Now' for a charity record and the band performed alongside Justin Currie at a launch show in Glasgow.
Dave has also been working with international guitarist Stuart McCallum on his studio/live project “Distilled” which came out on record label “Naim” in autumn 2011. They performed a sold out launch gig at The Royal Northern College of Music as part of The Manchester International Jazz Festival. The band has also appeared at some major music festivals in 2010/2011/12/13 including “SoundWave Festival” in Croatia. Stuart and the band also recently supported “Bonovo” in Leeds and Portico Quartet at the London jazz Festival.
Dave has worked with Italian pianist Enrico Pieranunzi during 2012 and 2014. The trio completed 2 tours of the north of England. Enrico has played with jazz giants such as Chet Baker, Paul Motion, Charlie Haden, Antonio Sanchez, Joey Baron, Marc Johnson to name a few.
Dave has also recorded with chart topping artist JP Cooper, playing on his 2nd and 3rd EPs. Dave specialises in the brushes and this can be heard to great effect on tracks such as "The Only Reason" and "My Father's House".
Dave also played the launch of the Real Book Northwest Publication at The Manchester Jazz Festival 2007, then recorded an album of original works by North West artists and then toured around the UK with the project. The project featured Mike Walker, Andy Schofield, Les Chisnall, and Steve Berry.
Dave other commercial work over the past few years has included working with writer/producer Graham Massey (808 State) and being an integral member of ‘Toolshed’. This project has played all over Europe and featured in a Channel 4 documentary. It also featured on BBC Radio 3 “Mixing It” program and recorded for Mary Anne Hobbs’s show at Maida Vale, London. The project also recorded an album in 2004. Dave also played drums for 808 State at a Manchester music event called “Manchester-V-Cancer” at the M.E.N. Arena. They played alongside artists such as Badly Drawn Boy, New Order, The Doves, Johnny Marr/Andy Rourke. Elbow and The Happy Mondays.Dave also recorded with writer/producer Jimpster (Kudos records and Freerange Records) on the early project and played on three widely acclaimed E.P's, remixes and the first Jimpster album, "Messages from the Hub" Dave also wrote one of the tunes on that album which was licensed to two other albums including the first Big Chill artist album. Jimpster played all over Europe with their live drum-n-bass band, being one of the first to do it live with now samples. Dave also toured with “Grand Central records” recording artist Dana Bryant. They toured across Europe playing many acclaimed festivals such as The North Sea Jazz festival - The Hague, Holland. The Phoenix Festival – UK.Dave has also recorded on over 60 albums and features on many remixes over the years.
