As a professional, Matt has a 25-year history of working as a live musician in the music industry. Notable accomplishments include tours in the UK, USA and Europe. This has included festival performances and a live session for Radio 1, recorded at the prestigious Maida Vale studios in London.
Matt is a fully qualified lecturer and has been teaching full-time for 10 years in FE and HE institutions, including Leeds Conservatoire, School of Sound Recording in Manchester and Wakefield College. His areas of expertise include; film composition, studio recording, mixing, sequencing, Foley and sample creation, analysis and academic research.
As an academic, Matt has a BSc (Hons) in Music Technology and a Master’s degree in Music for the Moving Image. The latter allowed him to hone his own research skills and develop papers on Library Music and acquiring work in the Film Music industry.
Matt’s experience in performance and popular music has allowed him to adapt his composition and research skills to the requirements of film music and develop his own individual compositional techniques. Matt is currently working on an album of guitar-only compositions for the production music market as well as composing an album of original rock ‘n’ roll songs for his band, Surface Waves.
Matt also works with local charities, such as Leeds Music Trust, to help inspire and deliver music courses to the local communities in Leeds.
