Aside from working as a lecturer, Matthew is an actor, writer, composer and producer. Matthew wrote and starred in Miss Nightingale - an original British musical which toured the UK five times to midscale and large scale venues, before doing an eight week run at the Vaults and then transferring for a further eight weeks to the Hippodrome Theatre in the West End.
He has worked on seven other West End shows as composer or performer, and has recently finished playing Gollum in the Watermill Theatre’s award winning production of Lord Of The Rings.
He is dedicated to supporting the creation of new work and is a key member of Mercury Musicals Development and Musical Theatre Network. He is also a judge for the Stiles and Drewe Song Prize.
"With extraordinary contortions of torso and vocal cords, Matthew Bugg’s Gollum makes a formidable case for the superiority of Equity members over CGI." - The Guardian
