Zoltan (BA, MMus, MA) studied Classical Double Bass at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Hungary and Jazz Double Bass with Wayne Darling at the Hochschule fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst Austria.
He then continued his postgraduate studies at California Institute of the Arts with Charlie Haden, Darek Oles, Arnie Egilsson (Principal DB of the Paramount Filmstudios Orchestra). Jeff Berlin and David Carpenter on electric bass guitar, also with the internationally renowned Alan Broadbent and Joe LaBarbara.
His teaching has included Double Bass, Electric bass, Music theory, Aural awareness at CalArts during 1994-95. Teaching Electric Bass at Jeff Berlinʼs Playerschool of Music in 1995-96 and he is currently Principal Lecturer at Leeds College of Music.
Zoltan is a regular performer on the Los Angeles Jazz scene during 1994-97, with artists including:Rick Zunigar(Stevie Wonder Band), Alan Broadbent(Charlie Haden Quartet West), Kei Akagi (Miles Davis Band), Terry Lynne Carrington(Wayne Shorter Band), Alvin Quinn(Oscar Peterson Trio), Brandon Fields(Dave Weckl Band), Rick Zunigar(Stevie Wonder Band) and Alan Broadbent.
He is a regular performer on the UK Jazz scene since late 2001, including: BBC BigBand, Jiggs Wigham, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The London Sinfonietta, Gilad Atzmon, Peter King, Tim Garland, Dennis Rollinsʼs Bad Bone&Co.,Jamie Cullum, Jim Mullen, Alan Barnes, Martin Drew, Paloma Faith, Claire Teal, Anita Wardell, Ulf Wakenius(Oscar Peterson Trio)
Regular performer with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra as rhythm section player, including Roy Orbison Tour, several Movie live/symphonic rock performances at the Royal Abert Hall and many concerts around the UK.
Since 2009 has been a regular performer at the following West End shows: The Ratpack, Dirty Dancing, Legally Blonde, Shrek, Wicked, Lion King, Dirty Rotten Scoundrals, Miss Henderson Presents, Charlie and the Chocolate factory, Book of Mormon, Hamilton, The girl form the north country, Company, Only Fools and Horses…
Radio and TV appearances include several BBC BigBand specials with Claire Teal, Friday night is music Night with the BBC Big Band, Paloma Faith and Tony Christie, National TV Awards 2012 for ITV1 with the Bruce Forsythe BigBand featuring Ant&Dec.
Zoltan has also performed at numerous International and National Jazz Festivals and was awarded Second place at the International Society of Bassists Jazz competition in 1991, Full Scholarship to California Institute of the Arts in 1994 and BBC Jazz Awards Best band with Dennis Rollinsʼs Badbone&Co in 2006.
