Tips from the technicians
Experiment
Use your time in the studios to experiment whenever you can. This way you can learn which microphones you like, which rooms you like and you will grow in confidence in your selection process and setting up time.
Compare microphones
Try borrowing several microphones to do AB comparisons using different techniques and in different rooms, to see which setup you liked best. It's amazing how a microphone you really liked sounds very different in a different acoustic.
Keep notes
Make notes on what microphones you like and how you set them up so when it comes to recording you can get started much quicker.
