Introduction to Ableton Live

An introduction to Ableton Live, enabling teachers to discover some of the powerful in-depth features available.

Increasingly used by creative musicians, Ableton Live can be used for writing, arranging and mixing like a traditional DAW but also contains unique features which allow for improvisation, effect processing, live looping, randomisation and modular synthesis.

Our tutor, Senior Lecturer at Leeds Conservatoire Chris Milnes has created two videos below which cover a solid grounding in the basics of Ableton Live, enabling teachers to discover some of the powerful in-depth features available. We have put these resources together in response to demand from teaching staff in schools/colleges who are not experienced with this DAW and would benefit from resources to support their teaching.

The first video is an introduction to Ableton Live which takes you through an overview of the windows and how a workflow would work in Ableton. The second video is an introduction to recording in Ableton for MIDI and audio. Please note that both video demonstrations use Ableton Live 10.

If you have any questions about any of the content, please do contact us at schools@lcm.ac.uk and we’d be happy to put you in contact with the tutor.
