Sounds of Leeds Conservatoire + Sharon Watson MBE (Northern School of Contemporary Dance)
We're delighted to welcome our Q&A guest for the March instalment of the Sounds Of series: Sharon Watson MBE.
In May 2020 Sharon was appointed CEO and Principal of the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Formerly Sharon was the 7th and longest-standing Artistic Director of Phoenix Dance Theatre. Trained at the London School of Contemporary Dance, she was one of the first female principal dancers invited to join the all-male award winning Phoenix Dance Company, touring with the company from 1989 to 1997 where she choreographed Never Still and Shaded Limits.
Her list of accolades include the Sue Ryder ‘Yorkshire Women of Achievement in Business Award’ and ‘Yorkshire Woman of the Year,' the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts’ Companionship Award awarded by Sir Paul McCartney, the first English Woman’s Award for Arts and Culture, an Honorary Doctorate from Leeds Beckett University for her contribution to the arts, and a Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire. In 2021, she was awarded an MBE in the Queens New Year’s Honours list.
About Sounds of Leeds Conservatoire
The Sounds of Leeds Conservatoire series runs monthly throughout the year, and provides a cross-genre showcase of the conservatoire's finest performing talent. All are welcome to enjoy a midweek gig, in one of our state-of-the-art venues - entry is free, the booking fee covers your first drink on arrival.
Join us in the Café bar for drinks after work, before heading into the atmospheric and intimate Room 218 to enjoy a concert by superb up-and-coming musicians.

Entry is free to members of the public - the booking fee buys your first drink. Please consider supporting us with a donation via the Donation Station in the Café Bar, or through our JustGiving page.
Tickets
Free - we just ask that you pay in advance for your first drink via the booking link.
When arriving at the venue, pick up your ticket from the box office at reception on Level 1, and use it to redeem a drink of your choice at the drinks table on Level 2.
