Alex Thomas - BA (Hons) Acting
Alex Thomas is a first year student on the BA (Hons) Acting course and a member of the National Youth Theatre company.
What made you choose Leeds Conservatoire?
The minute I got into my audition I loved everything about the Conservatoire. The teachers, the facilities and the vibe of the city. As I am from London, I wanted to get out and explore the northern culture and the arts up north.
Has anything been totally different to what you expected when you started at Leeds Conservatoire?
Nothing has been different apart from the pandemic. Obviously I would’ve hoped to be able to have a proper freshers week, but I still had a great first week all things considered.
What is the most mind blowing thing you've learned so far at Leeds Conservatoire?
Learning about myself as an artist and seeing the talent from my peers has been incredible.
Is there anything that has really made you push yourself as a musician or performer?
I love the course, which means I push myself in every lesson and give 100%. It’s hard work, but I am learning and growing so much after every class.
What projects / performances have you worked on so far in your first year?
At the end of October we had a Festival of Dionysus in the woods. We all performed a solo or duo/trio and an ensemble piece based on what we had learnt about Greek theatre. It was awesome to see the work of the other groups and the actor musicians. We all had the best day.
What sort of accommodation are you living in? What advice would you give to new students about accommodation?
I’m living in student halls right next to St. Peter’s square and Leeds playhouse. It’s great because it takes me 2 minutes to get to lessons, however there is definitely cheaper accommodation further out in the city.
What is the best thing about living and studying in Leeds?

What advice would you give to a new student about to start at Leeds Conservatoire in September?
Throw yourself into everything!
