Hi, Guangchen - We’d love to know where your musical journey began?
When I was 17 years old in China, I fell in love with R&B and soul, which made me start studying music until now.
What motivated you to pursue your chosen course, especially at Leeds Conservatoire?
In my opinion, I want to be an artist myself, but I think my singing performance needs to be improved, so I want to continue to study pop music. In my opinion, Leeds Conservatoire is a top pop music college. And there are some strong pop music atmosphere and very top-notch equipment for students to use. Besides, the course can arrange us to stimulate us to improve our music level in all aspects, which is the most attractive point for me.
How has our course helped you? What are some of the main things you've learned so far?
In the course, I found that I not only improved my singing level, but also improved my creative ability in the study. In the class, we can create in groups, which can help people like me who have never created music to improve my musical creative ability and level.
How has working with diverse artists in a collaborative environment benefited you?
I can exchange a lot of inspiration with many artists and stimulate me to try areas I have never tried before. I can also learn many skills that I haven't learned.
Are there lots of performance opportunities for Leeds Conservatoire students?
My answer is yes, we can often see the performance registration on the official website of the school, such as Crosswire. Moreover, at the end of each semester, we can choose live performances, which is very attractive to us.
What drew you to study in the UK? Were there any specific reasons?
I like the overall musical atmosphere and history and culture of Britain. Studying in Britain won't make people feel uncomfortable, and people's enthusiasm also touches me.
What's your take on Leeds? Is it easy to get accustomed to?
Leeds is one of my favourite cities. The shopping, study and life experience is very substantial, and the pace of life is not fast. This kind of life makes me integrate quickly.
