Joseph Alhallak - FdA Music Production
Joseph Alhallak is studying a Foundation Degree in Music Production. He's a hip hop producer and vocalist releasing under the moniker Yusef Yellow. Joseph's latest EP The Yellow Tape is a blend of hazy instrumentals and personal introspection, it's available to stream via Spotify.
Has your music changed at all since starting your studies?
Yes, the quality of my music production has improved a lot. I have developed more of an individual style.
What has been the most interesting project you have worked on so far?
My album The Yellow Tape.
Is there anything that has really made you push yourself as a musician or performer, or anything new that you've not tried before?
Watching rappers from Leeds Conservatoire perform with live bands and witnessing people use live instruments to create hip-hop beats. Both of these aspects opened my eyes to a new approach of making and performing music.
What sort of accommodation are you living in? What advice would you give to new students about accommodation?
I'm living in a student house in Hyde Park. My accommodation advice would be to try and get your house sorted ASAP - you'll have more choices to pick from the earlier you start looking.
What do you get up to outside of studying?
I'm working on music mainly, or doing work related to my music. If not, I'll be playing basketball and socialising, but less so with Covid.
What is the best thing about living and studying in Leeds?

What advice would you give to a prospective student thinking of applying to your course?
If you want to pursue music at any level, and you have the time to commit to study, this really feels like the place to be.
