Odysseas Liakos is a first-year Film Music student who has taken part in projects such as a rescore for the Berlin International Film Scoring Competition.

What made you choose Leeds Conservatoire?

It had exactly the course I wanted, I loved the vibe and atmosphere of it. It is also located in Leeds which is one of the best cities to study in.

Has anything been totally different to what you expected when you started at Leeds Conservatoire?

No, everything has been up to my expectations!

What is the most mind blowing thing you've learned so far at LCoM?

That there are people that travel from the other side of the planet just to study what they love.

Is there anything that has really made you push yourself as a musician or anything new that you've not tried before?

Well, most of the assignments do push my skills as a film composer, which helps me grow.

What projects / performances have you worked on so far in your first year?

A couple of rescores and a rescore for the Berlin International Film Scoring Competition.

What sort of accommodation are you living in? What advice would you give to new students about accommodation?

I am living in student accommodation in Lovell Park. I would advise that you find somewhere close to the city centre for your first year to keep it simple and have everything on your doorstep to settle in more easily.

In your 2nd year onwards you will have many friends and feel at home. You can move to some other areas like Headingley which is very beautiful and studenty, better rent prices too.

What do you get up to outside of Leeds Conservatoire?

There are a million events happening every week, even for someone as picky as me. I have been to some really interesting concerts and events such as Star Wars with a live orchestra in the First Direct Arena.

What is the best thing about living and studying in Leeds?

Its a very lively, beautiful and compact city. Really easy to get around, not to big or small, with many opportunities for work and fun.

What advice would you give to a new student about to start at Leeds Conservatoire in September?

Be chill, enjoy it, meet as many people as possible and get in the right mindset from year one. Make the most out the facilities and the environment and keep the balance between fun, uni, and work.

How would you describe your experience at Leeds Conservatoire so far in three words?

Really, really awesome.
