This will be the first opportunity to hear the newest winner of the Leeds International Piano Competition performing in Leeds just months after the 2024 competition. The winner follows an illustrious line of past winners including Radu Lupu, Murray Perahia, Mitsuko Uchida, András Schiff, Lars Vogt, and more recently Eric Lu and Alim Beisembayev.

A devotee of historically informed performance, classical guitarist Georgi Dimitrov alternates music of the English Renaissance with the 20th Century. He finishes his programme with a combination of the two in Britten’s epic exploration of a John Dowland theme, which is finally revealed in full at the very end of the work.

A debut performance of original ambient music; classical musicians Aura (Laura Westcott) and Andrew Quartermain present their specially written music designed to give listeners a sense of escape in serenity. A peaceful sound world created of vocal and piano lines give a sense of relaxation, calmness, and reflection.

This concert is performed by the wonderful British cellist, Vashti Hunter, and renowned British pianist, Alasdair Beatson. Together they explore the most Slavic part of Europe with intriguing and mesmerising compositions by Leoš Janáček, an epic sonata by Bohuslav Martinů, and the glorious Cello Sonata by Polish composer, Frédéric Chopin.

Classical rhythms and soul-stirring melodies immerse listeners as winter bids adieu and the gentle breeze of spring whispers promises of new beginnings.

Pippin is a 1972 musical that follows a young prince named Pippin on his quest for purpose and meaning in life. Guided by a mysterious troupe of performers, Pippin explores glory, power, love, and contentment, only to realize that fulfillment comes from embracing ordinary, everyday moments over grand ambitions.
